Kapa Hale is Chef Keaka Lee’s neighborhood restaurant, tucked into a small corner of Kāhala next to Olive Tree. Lee, a Kalani High School and Kapiʻolani Community College culinary graduate, named it for the Hawaiian practice of making kapa, and says he treats each plate as a blank piece of kapa for telling a story.
The restaurant describes its food as a modern take on Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine, pairing local products and island farm produce with Hawaiian, American, European and Asian influences. It serves weekend brunch, lunch Wednesday through Friday and dinner nightly, and takes takeout orders by phone. Lee was a James Beard Award semifinalist in 2023.
For Honolulu Restaurant Week, Nov. 7–15, Kapa Hale offers a $36 lunch (Wednesday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) with choices like oxtail pho (+$5) or pork belly Korean spicy miso ramen, and a $40 weekend brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) that starts with a pastry spread and includes mains like the “KFC & Waffle,” fried chicken with a Belgian-style waffle and country gravy.
